Texarkana Community Care to Hold Town Hall Meeting

November 20, 2006, Texarkana, AR– The Annual Election Period for Medicare Advantage plans began November 15, leaving many Texarkana Medicare beneficiaries confused and anxious about their options for coverage.  Whether they have received an overwhelming amount of information about the choices available, or not enough, many feel ill equipped to make this important decision.

Committed to walking Texarkana community members through their Medicare choices every step of the way, Texarkana Community Care is inviting all Medicare beneficiaries to a Town Hall meeting featuring national health care expert John Austin, M.D., to learn about Medicare changes, benefits and alternatives, the Medicare Prescription Drug Program, enrollment and more.

The Town Hall meeting will take place at the Miller County Senior Adult Center, 1007 Jefferson Avenue, on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 11:30 a.m.  In addition to an informational session and forum for questions, lunch will be provided for all attendees by Texarkana Community Care and there will be a raffle giveaway.  A sales representative will be present with information and Individual Enrollment Forms.  For accommodation of persons with special needs at sales meetings call 1-800-705-0766 (TTY/TDD 866-573-8613).

John Austin, M.D., a physician and Chairman of Texarkana Community Care, will be the featured speaker at the Town Hall meeting.  For more than two decades, Dr. Austin has guided health care organizations in regions throughout the country.  He received his MD from the University of California San Francisco, and an MPH from Harvard University, and frequently speaks on a range of health care issues nationwide.

“With the massive changes we’ve seen to the Medicare system over the past couple of years, it’s no wonder there has been a lot of confusion among beneficiaries,” Dr. Austin said.  “But once we get past the initial confusion, I think these new choices make Medicare a better system than ever.”

Texarkana Community Care provides benefit plans for Medicare-eligible beneficiaries in Columbia, Hempstead, Howard, Lafayette, Little River, Miller, Nevada and Sevier counties in Arkansas, and McCurtain and Pushmataha counties in Oklahoma.

“We’re a locally operated organization,” said Donna Jennings, regional vice president.  “These meetings are a great way for people to learn more and have their questions answered by us in person, and we are available in our office to continue to answer any questions they have along the way.”

While providing all of the same benefits as standard Medicare coverage for a lower cost, Texarkana Community Care also offers much more, such as additional coverage for routine vision and preventive services, including routine annual physical exams.  Extra value-added services like fitness center memberships make Texarkana Community Care a comprehensive and affordable health care plan.

Texarkana Community Care offers one plan with zero monthly premiums and two with low co-payments and expanded benefits:
